Don’t you just love how short the work week seems after a long weekend?! You blink, and it’s half over! The only downside to the weekend being on the horizon sooner than expected is that you have a little less planning time for it. Worry not, we got your back! Check out our amazing, weekend activities on a dime, which will keep both you and the kids active and entertained throughout this upcoming Saturday and Sunday!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 12

This Saturday, we are taking you to one of the biggest festival of the summer – The Taste of Danforth! “Being Greek for a day” will lead you right in the middle of the delicious world of Greek food – but that’s not all! There will be loads entertainment – check out the Celebrity, Greek and Showcase Stage, programmed this year by NXNE. Don’t miss the Sports Zone, with its Leafs, Argos, Raptors, and Toronto FC challenges, the “Canada 150” experience, where you will be transported to a virtual reality setting with some of our biggest Canadian heroes, or the “Hollywood on the Danforth” zone, with plenty of entertainment.

The little ones will enjoy the Toronto Star Kids’ Fun Zone, where there will be an obstacle course to complete, plenty of rewards and an EverBlocks Club-House with its very own interactive LEGO station for youth and adults of all sizes and ages.

Once you’ve had enough souvlaki and fun for the day, head north to the Agha Khan Museum, a short 15min ride from the Danforth, for some relaxing family time. The museum’s free Films Under the Stars program is on, so bring a blanket, position yourself on the beautiful grounds and share a laugh with the kiddies while watching the beloved “Happy Feet”. The projection starts at 9pm, and by the time you get home, everyone will be ready to go straight to bed and perhaps even sleep in on Sunday!

SUNDAY, AUGUST 13

As you might already know, the EX is almost here! In preparation for their grand opening next week, the Canadian National Exhibition is doing a wonderful, free interactive program – an introduction to horses. Designed for the young and young at heart, HorseCapades will sweep you away from city life and into the magical world of horses. Children will get a chance to get close to a horse, learn about grooming and shoeing, and participate in fun activities such as guessing the horse’s weight and getting a free pony ride. The program takes place daily, from 11am to 2pm.

Once you are done learning about horses, take a walk by the lake along the Martin Goodman Trail, pass by the Ex’s Rose Garden, soak up some sunshine and enjoy the sights of the lake. And if you are walking west, a mere 40 minutes later, you will find yourself at one of the city’s best spot for splashing and tanning – the Gus Ryder outdoor pool. Whether you are swimming or tanning at the beach right in front of it, this free pool located at the foot of Lakeshore Blvd. & Parkside Drive promises plenty of fun for the whole family! You will get a chance to rest and fully recharge, while the little ones are getting tons of summer amusement.

After these weekend activities on a dime, everyone will go home happy and fully prepared to tackle whatever challenges work (and summer camp) puts on your plate in the week ahead!

Happy weekending!
